New Injury Update On Diego Costa

Diego Costa

As Mourinho looks forward to defeating Wenger for a record 13th time as they face off on Sunday, he may have to do it without star striker Diego Costa. The Spaniard has failed to recover on time, after picking up a Hamstring injury in the Stoke City game on April 4. Although, the club’s highest goal scorer isn’t in the best condition to play on Sunday, the coach says he will have to make a late decision on the Spaniard’s fitness, as the Blues seem to want to pick up all three points at the Emirates. The team has opted for a more strategic approach towards the last few games in his absence, as opposed to the artistic approach they have employed with him on field.

The team is careful about putting his fitness at risk. He has been sidelined four times in the season already with the same injury; one that also gave him serious concerns during his last days at Atletico Madrid last season.  Chelsea already maintains a comfortable lead in the Premier League (10 points clear on top), and they only look forward to an extension of an excellent run come Sunday. Costa isn’t even likely to be on bench at the Emirates, and Wednesday title-clincher match at Leicester city is also likely to be played without his presence on the field of play. Loic Remy picked up an injury during training two weeks ago; hence he is not an option. But all things being equal, experienced-striker Didier Drogba remains an available option.

If the next two matches are won, the title will go to Chelsea before the month of May. It is in the eagerness to lift the title that Mourinho had hoped Costa would have attained 100% fitness before the Arsenal and Leicester City matches. Sadly enough for the coach, his participation in training with the rest of the team was hindered through the injury. However, youth team’s forward, Dominic Solanke, who was instrumental in the team’s under-21 success at the youth teams’ Uefa, will be on the bench in the absence of the key strikers. The 17years old has scored 35 goals already this season. He was left out against Everton on Thursday, speculating that he could feature for the senior team in Emirates after having only appeared for 17 minutes thus far this season for the team.
