Di Matteo: Forget the Terry saga – Chelsea just concentrate on WINNING!

Chelsea players always seem to be in the middle of some controversy or other, and this week has been no exception with John Terry getting a four-match ban and Ashley Cole waiting to be punished for his twitter outburst after the FA accused him of lying.

But Roberto Di Matteo is more than happy that the team doesn’t get affected by matters off the field, but just continue to concentrate and do their job on the pitch – winning games! Di Matteo saw his team imperiously beat Norwich 4-1 yesterday to extend their lead at the top of the Premiership, and the Italian said after the game: “The results are telling me we are able to blank things out and can focus on our aim, our target and job — to win games.

“It is proving how professional the group is and how well we have responded.

“I wouldn’t say it is a siege mentality though, that is not what we feel or what is happening with us.

“We are concentrating on our strengths and we try to win games with the players we have and our philosophy.

“We are creating lots of chances, scoring lots of goals and with different scorers as well — we don’t rely on just one player.

“It’s a team that is in good shape. They are enjoying playing and they are lucky people to do this as a job.”

The Italian coach insisted he had not dreamed of dropping either Terry or Cole.

Di Matteo added: “I judge my players on what I see in training and in the games and when they are there they are fully focused and professional. That’s how I pick my team.”

And Di Matteo certainly knows how to pick a team right now! Everything he touches turn to gold. We are due a few slightly more difficult games after the international break, but who’s worried? Not me! And not Di Matteo!
