For the services of Belgium international defender, Toby Alderweireld, Chelsea and Tottenham will have to battle it out in transfer fees. The Atletico Madrid player is on loan at the EPL with Southampton, and after having put up a spectacular performance in the league, he is now a subject of demands by clubs. The 26 year-old defender was on duty yesterday for the national team in their victory over France, Toby gave another brilliant display as Belgium went ahead to win 4 goals to 3. Such qualities of his are what make Chelsea, Tottenham, Southampton and his parent club, Atletico Madrid locked in talks over his services for the coming campaign.

Southampton have an option of making his move permanent by paying Atletico 7 million pounds. But the Rojiblancos might cash in on the fact that his stocks have risen over the past 12 months, and sell him for either Chelsea or Tottenham who will be bringing nothing less than 14 million pounds for the player’s signature. And in that case, they will have to pay 3 million pounds in compensation to the Saints according to earlier contract agreement in the player’s loan. The Belgian defence rock says he prefers to stay in the EPL, he told the press,

“There are three options – stay with Atlético, stay with Southampton or go to another club. Southampton gave me that opportunity and it paid off, I think. I’ve had a fantastic year, I can’t lie about that, so, yes, I’d like to stay in the Premier League.”

Southampton are already preparing for the eventuality of his departure, and are in talks with Espanyol over their defender, Hector Moreno. Europa appearances are available both at Southampton and Tottenham next season, and only Chelsea promises Champions League action, these might come handy in decision making for Alderweireld as to where he will like to be next season.
